Dr. Bryan Dinh

Lower Extremity

Evidence-Based Lower-Extremity Anatomy for Real Life

Dr. Bryan Dinh, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT

8:00am | 10:00am | 1:30pm

Contact Hours: 2 CEUs

Course Description

This course is presented by a physical therapist and anatomy professor and provides an evidence-based, clinically relevant exploration of lower-extremity anatomy as it truly presents in real-world patient care—not the simplified, two-dimensional version memorized for the PT exam. Using high-quality cadaveric dissection images, real-time diagnostic ultrasound, and current peer-reviewed literature, participants will examine accurate three-dimensional relationships among muscles, nerves, fascia, and connective tissues commonly implicated in lower-extremity dysfunction.

Key anatomical structures—including the sciatic nerve and its regional relationships, the hamstring complex (semitendinosus, semimembranosus, and biceps femoris), gluteal musculature, the ankle, and associated neurovascular structures—are reviewed in depth. Emphasis is placed on anatomical variation, tissue depth, spatial orientation, and dynamic visualization via diagnostic ultrasound, highlighting how these factors directly influence examination findings, symptom presentation, and treatment response.

Clinical correlations link anatomy to common lower-extremity pathologies and movement impairments, demonstrating how anatomical realities guide differential diagnosis, tissue loading strategies, and intervention selection. Integration of diagnostic ultrasound imaging allows participants to appreciate live tissue behavior, structural relationships, and common sources of diagnostic error that are not apparent in static models alone. Rather than emphasizing rote memorization, this course prioritizes clinical reasoning grounded in anatomical evidence, equipping clinicians to interpret patient presentations that do not follow textbook diagrams.

This course is designed for practicing clinicians seeking to refine their anatomical understanding, enhance diagnostic accuracy, and translate evidence-based anatomy—including cadaveric and ultrasound findings—into meaningful, real-world clinical decision-making.

Integrating Nutrition Strategies into Physical Therapy

Chris Juneau, PT, DPT, ATC, MTC, MBA, CNS

8:00am | 1:30pm

Contact Hours: 2 CEUs

Course Description

This session provides physical therapists and physical therapy assistants with evidence-informed knowledge and clinical rationale to incorporate nutrition considerations into patient care within professional scope of practice. Participants will review current research related to inflammation, metabolic health, and the gut–brain connection, and examine how dietary patterns may influence pain modulation, tissue healing, mental health, and physical performance.

Through case-based discussion and latest research, attendees will explore practical, patient-centered strategies to support behavior change, complement therapeutic exercise, and enhance patient engagement. The course will address the role of pro-inflammatory dietary patterns in pain sensitization, emerging evidence related to central sensitization syndromes, and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration with registered dietitians and other healthcare professionals.

Participants will leave with practical communication tools to initiate nutrition-related conversations, apply screening considerations, and support whole-person, lifestyle-based models of care consistent with APTA’s vision of optimizing movement to improve the human experience. This session is relevant for clinicians practicing in orthopedics, pelvic health, pediatrics, neurology, and chronic pain management who seek to expand comprehensive, patient-centered approaches to care.
